Marriage migrants in Taiwan demand nothing but respect and equal treatments. Through years of empowerment, the members of TASAT realized that immigrants have to unite and fight for their rights. They do not struggle for themselves but for many other immigrants. The road to equality may be tumbling and the marriage migrants may be frustrated, but they never give up hope. To encourage their fellow immigrants to join them, they shout, “My sisters, let’s not be afraid!”

Let’s Not Be Afraid! --- Adocumentary on the struggle of marriage migrants in Taiwan
More than 430,000 foreign spouses from Mainland China and Southeast Asian countries marry to Taiwanese. Many of them are women from poor families in rural areas in their native countries. Like everyone else, they dream for a happy marriage and a better future. However, only when they arrive in Taiwan, they realize that they are treated as “others” who are strangled by discriminative policies.
Marriage migrants are discriminated and stigmatized, and yet they are expected to adapt themselves into this society, to be responsible for children’s education, to be a good wife, and to take care of the family. The members of TASAT understand that only when immigrants unite themselves, can they resist the oppressions. To stand up for immigrants’ rights, marriage migrants become activists and advocates.
Starting from Chinese learning and various training programs, marriage migrants in TASAT are empowered and transformed into progressive activists. They not only struggle for the welfare and rights of marriage migrants, but also stand in solidarity with migrant workers, indigenous peoples and other oppressed people at national, regional and international levels. The members of TASAT decided to document the journey of empowerment and advocacy. They work collaboratively in producing this documentary despite the fact that they knew nothing about interviewing, filming or editing. Despite of limited resources and budget, they worked day and night for months to finally complete this incredible task, with the confidence and strength developed through their rich experiences of struggles and nurtured by their family and friends. They want to tell the world that they can speak out for themselves and they can make a change. With this documentary, they want to encourage fellow immigrants, “Don’t be afraid to stand up for ourselves”!
